CHENNAI: VA Tech WABAG, which specialises in water and waste water treatment and recycling, signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT-Kanpur to develop a few sustainable villages on the banks of the Ganga river.
The Model Ganga Grams would form part of the Namami Gange and Swachh Bharat programmes. This initiative is supported by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), the ministry of water resources, the ministry of rural development and the ministry of gram panchayat, New Delhi.
S Varadarajan, director and chief growth officer of WABAG, said, “We aim at abating direct discharge of untreated liquid wastewater from villages to the Ganga and promote better sanitation practices in the villages.
We are delighted and honoured to join hands with IIT-Kanpur to create better sustainable villages.”
